Vision Screening Campaign in Assam

Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care. Access to health care and equitable distribution of health services are the fundamental requirements. Many backward and remote areas in our country lack basic health care infrastructure limiting access to health services at present. A large number of people in rural areas are unable to seek medical help due to variety of economic and social problems. “The groundwork of all happiness is good health”. Basic health care and health assurance seem to be a distant dream for underprivileged people. Eyesight is one of the most important and valued senses we have. Eye examinations are an important part of health maintenance for everyone regardless of age or physical health.

625 million people around the world are avoidably vision impaired or blind because they don’t have access to eye care. At some point in our life need of vision correction is necessary. The simple fact is that by around 45 years old, every person in the world begins to experience the need for vision correction as their eyes naturally age.

Acknowledging the road to provide necessary eye care, Rehab India Foundation joined hands with Fakoruddin Ali Ahamed Hospital organized Free Vision Screening campaign in the Rehab Model Village, Bongaigaon of Assam on 14.10.2014. Dr. (Mr) Banerjee, Eye Specialist, examined the patients and provided his excellent service. More than 60 villagers got their eyes examined and were advices on post check-up surgery. The beneficiaries of the Camp are now eligible for free surgeries in Fakoruddin Ali Ahamed Hospital situated in Barpeta, Assam.

The programme was successfully coordinated by Mr. Sadagar Ali, Field Officer, MSW Final year student of Rehab India Foundation.

Needless to say, this was indeed a great opportunity for the underprivileged in our area of operations, which forms part of our Social Upliftment Programme.

This initiative of the Rehab India Foundation go a long way in enhancing out-reach of medical services to the remotest areas. We, the team of Rehab India Foundation, stand to achieve our goal. Empowering people throughout the backward and rural region to reach out and improve their standard of living with our best possible services and support. We take pride in that.
