Rural Library Inauguration in Assam

“The journey of a lifetime starts with the turning of a page”. The concept of Rehab Rural Library started as a scintilla from the request from few poor village students. The students requested Rehab to help them with subject guides, dictionaries, etc. This enthusiasm and eagerness of the children prompted the Rehab team-Assam to start the Rehab Rural Library.

A library is a treasure-house of knowledge. It helps a good deal in spreading knowledge and education. A well-stocked library is an asset.

There was no Library in the vicinity of 20 kms surrounding the village. To guide and support the children, Rehab decided to establish a library, for which, the students of various schools and colleges were requested to contribute the books during the Book Donation Campaign held from 10th January 2014 to 31st January 2014. Almost 90 percent of the books were collected in this Book Donation Campaign. 340 books which cost around 21,371/- rupees were collected.

After a course of one month for the mobilization of the collected books, Rehab inaugurated The Rehab Rural Library successfully on 29th September 2014, in the Model Village – Hapachara Gram Panchayat – Bongaigoan District, Assam. Mr.Idres Ali – Principal, Zakir Hussain Public High School, Bijini, Chirang District, was the esteemed Chief Guest of the day.
