CHARITY TO EMPOWERMENT



New Delhi: Recognizing the cutting edge to the development is the quality of the key personnel implementing the developmental programmes, Rehab India Foundation organized training programme on ‘Economic Development of Rural Community’ for all the Project Managers of Rehab India Foundation at Rehab Head Quarter, Abul Fazal Enclave, New Delhi on March 8th and 9th, 2013.

Afsel Chandrankandy, Secretary Rehab India Foundation welcomed Chief Guest, Guest and all the eminent dignitaries of Rehab. While asking objective of the programme, Afsel said, “Rehab India Foundation has been striving to bring about equality in the society through its various welfare programmes be it education, medical relief, drinking water facility, model village, village development program, emergency relief and equal opportunities for all. We have done tremendous work especially in the rural areas for the marginalized section of community. By doing so, we have shown great results and are committed to do this until achieve our goal. We also believe that all efforts towards achieving our goal should be revisited and re-planned to organize Village Development Project according to the need of the hour, thus we have organized this discussion to create a platform where we can plan our strategy and upgrade our present tools and methods for achieving economic equality in our implementation area.”

Honorable Sanjay Bhatt, President National Association of Professional Social Workers in India welcomed as chief guest of the training programme that aims at creating awareness at rural development. He shared his valuable experience with team Rehab. While addressing project managers, he said, “not only India but whole world is fighting for alleviating poverty. For Village Development Programme, you need to understand the layers of poverty, system and culture of the village and try to understand community as much as you can. For achieving the goal, you need to plan a programme for whole community of the village; neither specific group nor specific category and try to focus on employment generation programme than income generation programme”  Including, he told, “Also, you need to understand the causes of poverty like lack of understanding, resources and failure of system.” This apart, Bhatt focused on behavioral change, and said “as a social worker, we need to change our attitude of work and look forward from charity to empowerment of people.” 

Next day, Javed Alam, Senior Researcher CBGA talked about different government schemes which provide financial support to the NGOs for implementing rural development programmes. He said that benefits of government schemes such as CAPART, Integrated Rural development Programme, Swarn jayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana, MGNREGA, Indira Awas Yojana etc. do not reach the poor and the needy because of unsuccessful implementing strategies.
